GoHighLevel questions, answered without the sales pitch
Short answers to what comes up most often in agency workspaces. Where a topic needs depth, the answer points to the full tutorial.
General platform questions
- What is GoHighLevel?
- It is an all-in-one platform bundling a CRM, multichannel automation (email, SMS, calls, WhatsApp via integration), a funnel and website builder, booking calendars, and reputation management into one subscription — with a separate sub-account per client and the option to resell it under your own brand.
- Is GoHighLevel a CRM or a marketing tool?
- Both, which is the point. The contact record, the pipeline, the conversation history, and the automation that acts on them all live in the same place, so no sync layer sits between marketing and sales data.
- Do I need technical skills to run it?
- No coding is required: workflows, pages, and calendars are visual. You do need patience for DNS records when authenticating domains, and an appetite for testing before going live.
- How long does a proper implementation take?
- Plan on one focused week for a first sub-account: account settings, domain and email authentication, one calendar, one funnel, and two or three workflows tested end to end. Rushing this is what creates the errors people spend weeks chasing later.
Plans, pricing and billing
- How much does GoHighLevel cost per month?
- Three public tiers: roughly $97/month for the entry plan with a small number of sub-accounts, roughly $297/month for the agency plan with unlimited sub-accounts, and roughly $497/month for the reseller plan that unlocks SaaS mode. Prices are public reference points and change.
- What is billed on top of the subscription?
- SMS segments, call minutes, email volume, monthly phone number rental, SMS compliance registration, WhatsApp conversations charged by Meta, and AI credits. All are usage charges drawn from a prepaid balance.
- Which plan should I start on?
- One business or a couple of clients: the entry plan is enough. From the fourth client onward, unlimited sub-accounts pay for themselves. The reseller plan only makes sense when clients are already waiting to be billed.
- Can I cancel anytime?
- Yes, billing is monthly and cancellation happens in the agency account settings. Export contacts, pages, and conversation history first, because access ends when the paid cycle does.
Workflows and automation
- Why is my workflow not firing?
- In order of frequency: the workflow is still in draft, the trigger filters exclude the contact, the contact already went through and re-entry is disabled, or an earlier wait step is still holding execution. Open the contact's execution log — it shows exactly which step it stopped on.
- Why do contacts get duplicate messages?
- Usually two workflows share a trigger, or one workflow allows re-entry on every tag change. Consolidate the triggers and set re-entry deliberately rather than leaving the default.
- How do I test a workflow without spamming real leads?
- Create a test contact with your own email and phone number, publish the workflow, and trigger it manually. Never test against an imported list; a misconfigured wait step can send hundreds of messages in seconds.
Email, SMS and WhatsApp delivery
- Why does my email land in spam?
- Almost always missing or partial domain authentication. Publish SPF, DKIM, and DMARC records for the sending domain, warm up volume gradually, and stop sending to lists you did not collect yourself.
- Can I use WhatsApp inside the platform?
- Yes, through an integration with an official WhatsApp Business API provider. Conversations are billed by Meta on top of your subscription, and message templates need approval before you can start a conversation.
- Why are my SMS messages failing to send?
- In most countries you must complete carrier compliance registration for the sending number before traffic is delivered. Unregistered numbers get filtered silently, which looks like an application bug but is not.
White label, SaaS mode and migration
- How does white label work?
- You point a subdomain at the platform, upload your logo and colors, and clients log in to your branded URL. Some system emails and help links remain vendor-branded, so audit them before promising a fully invisible experience.
- What is SaaS mode?
- It lets you resell sub-accounts as your own product: your pricing, your checkout, automatic provisioning after payment, and usage rebilling. It is available on the reseller tier.
- How do I migrate from another stack without losing data?
- Export contacts with their custom fields, map fields before importing, migrate one client at a time, and keep the old tool running read-only for a month. Rebuild automations natively instead of trying to replicate them one-to-one.
